Driving License Rules for Hong Kong
A visitor to Hong Kong may drive on a recognised licence for up to one year.
As soon as a person becomes "resident" in Hong Kong and obtains a Hong Kong ID Card he or she MUST obtain a Hong Kong licence and should not drive until that licence is obtained.
Getting a Hong Kong Licence is fairly painless although it should be done in person at the Transport Department. A form has to be filled in and presented with photo copies of (for retention) and originals of (for sight of) passport, Hong Kong ID card and overseas driving licence. The process will then take around five days.
